DESCRIPTION:Garrett College?s Continuing Education and Workforce Development division has scheduled a Commercial Driver?s License\, learner?s permit prep course on September 27 and 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mountaintop Truck Driving Institute in Grantsville. This two-day course is designed to prepare students for the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)\, Class A or B Commercial Driver permit exam. The course includes instruction on the following topics: general knowledge\, air brakes\, combination vehicles\, study and test taking skills. Entry requirements for the actual commercial driver training program include the following: be at least 18 years of age\, be able to obtain a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical\, and pass a DOT required drug screen. DOT language enforcement rule: one must be able to read English\, converse with the public\, understand highway signs and signals\, respond to official inquiries\, and make entries on reports or records. This course is taught through a combination of lecture\, discussion and hands on activities. It is recommended that students get a CDL Manual at the local MVA office and review prior to start of class.
