Explore Cheat Mountain on the Tygart Flyer Railroad
In an event sponsored by the Garrett County Historical Society and the Oakland B&O Railroad Station, you'll experience the thrill and scenery of a mountain railroad excursion.
A coach bus will transport you from downtown Oakland to Elkins, WV where you'll catch the Tygart Flyer Railroad for a wilderness excursion up Cheat Mountain (and back!). The day includes lunch (and wine for those opting for the Parlor Car option). When you return to the Elkins station, the coach bus will return you to Oakland.
Details:
Sept 10, 2022. Depart Oakland (corner of Liberty and 2nd Sts) at 8:30am and ride the coach bus to Elkins
Catch the Tygart Flyer Train with lunch on board the train.
Return to Elkins and the coach bus will bring you back to Oakland around 5:30pm
$100 for Parlor Car (lunch, wine and grouped assigned seating)
$75 for Dining Car (lunch and general seating)

This wilderness excursion features mountain grades, an “S” curve tunnel, a high bridge and miles of unspoiled mountain views. Vintage diesel-powered locomotives climb along the cascading Shavers Fork of the Cheat River to the High Falls of Cheat. Enjoy the view relaxing aboard our comfortable climate controlled passenger coaches.
