Garrett College Continuing Education and Workforce Development will be offering a course, ?All About Dogs: First Aid and Canine Massage? at the Northern Outreach Center in Grantville. It is slated for Wednesdays, October 14 and 21, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Bringing home a new pet to join the family is always a fun and exciting time. But it also comes with a huge responsibility. This new animal now depends on you for food, shelter, medical care, and companionship. This fun and informative course will cover some of the basics of canine animal care. Topics will include: feeding recommendations, bathing tips, and basic first aid topics. The benefits of massage therapy for your dog will also be discussed. Dogs, like humans, respond positively to touch. This is evident when they respond to your petting and rubbing. Yet most people do not understand the techniques best suited to really help ease the pain. Massage therapy is both a preventative measure and a solution for pain and suffering your pet may endure. Incorporating a massage into the everyday petting and grooming of your four-legged friend may lead to a happier, healthy pet. By learning the proper techniques, participants can help prevent many common ailments, as well as help realize pain one?s dog might already be feeling. The class will be divided into two sessions presenting different material on the topics listed above. Please note that this course is for humans only ? no pets. Participants are encouraged to bring in their own medium sized stuffed dog for training purposes. The course will be instructed by Debbie Daniels. She grew up around animals, worked in a vet hospital for year, and is the owner of her own business, Your Happy Tails located in Garrett County, a licensed, bonded, and insured premier group of pet sitters that travel to your home. She also provides pet sitting, but peace of mind knowing one?s home and pets are well cared for in his or her absence.
