The 2021 Joy of Christmas Light Show will begin on Friday, November 26 at the Oakland Community Center located at 14 North 8th Street. This is the 6th year for the display. The show features over 33,000 individually-controlled lights that are mounted on a variety of props, including a 35-ft Christmas tree. The production is sponsored by local businesses, churches, and individuals. Admission is completely free to the public and allows viewers to listen from outdoors on the sidewalk, or by tuning to 87.9 with the FM radio of their vehicle.
This year’s presentation is all-new and is titled “Back to the 80s,” featuring original versions of classic songs of the 80s, sung with Christmas-themed lyrics. A talking snowman, mouse, and Christmas stocking narrate the display and provide some good clean 80s and Christmas humor. This year’s show has been under construction since January by the staff of The CHIPS Network, and is designed to provide entertainment for all ages. The show is exactly 1 hour in length and will run from 5PM to midnight in a one-hour loop from November 26 through January 1. Audience members may come and go at any time, but it is recommended to begin watching at the top of the hour.
