Garrett College is pleased to announce the grand opening of the College?s state-of-the-art Cybersecurity lab on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the McHenry campus. The general public and members of the community are invited to attend the official kick-off and ribbon-cutting ceremony, sponsored by the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, beginning at 12 noon and ending at 2 p.m. The event will be held in the Cybersecurity lab, Room 107, in the Garrett Information Enterprise Center (GIEC) on the McHenry campus of Garrett College. The lab was built using the United States Department of Labor TAACCCT (Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training) grant program funds and is located in a SCIF (Self Contained Information Facility) in the Garrett Information Enterprise Center (GIEC) located on the McHenry campus. The lab space itself is designed using modular desks, each with its own wide screen monitor and PC, which in turn links to the instructor?s workstation to help aid in instruction. Students also have the ability to bring their own devices to connect with the instructor and each other. Future plans for the dynamic lab include Garrett College students? participation in cybersecurity competitions with other colleges throughout the country. Participants are encouraged to RSVP for the grand opening event by Monday, April 4, 2016. Light refreshments will be provided, and those in attendance will have the opportunity to explore the new facility and ask questions among Garrett College staff and faculty members present.
