This course is designed for any individual who wants to learn the fundamentals of managing and maintaining a computer. Topics to be covered include: system maintenance, basic troubleshooting, managing files and folders, and cleaning the computer inside and out. Upon completion of this course the student should be able to: perform system maintenance including scan disc, disc defragmentation, and back up; manage files and folders; evaluate error codes and decipher; demonstrate the process of cleaning the computer inside and out; evaluate computer viruses and implement proper techniques to eliminate them and explain the usefulness of uninterruptible power supply and surge suppressors. Students will learn many tips and tricks to improve performance and how to stay up-to-date with their personal computer. The course is being instructed by John Vought, Information Technology Support Technician at Garrett College. He has more than 17 years of experience configuring, installing, and maintaining computers for both the public and private sector.
